Community Outreach
What Our Outreach Work Does
Our outreach helps us:
Identify gaps in services and support for LGBTQ+ people.
Develop new projects based on real experiences and needs.
Partner with other organisations to improve inclusion and accessibility.
Deliver training on LGBTQ+ inclusion and equality for staff, volunteers, young people, and the wider community.
Raise awareness through school visits and local events.
Meet young people where they are—bringing support, information, and opportunities directly to them.
We also recognise that LGBTQ+ people have diverse and intersecting identities—including disability, ethnicity, religion, and more. Our work is shaped by these overlapping (intersectional) experiences to ensure no one is left behind.
Outreach Work at Pride in North Cumbria
At Pride in North Cumbria, we’re committed to supporting LGBTQ+ people across North and West Cumbria—especially young people who might not otherwise access our services.
Our Outreach Work is all about connecting with the community where they are, listening to what’s needed, and taking action to create positive change.
What We've Been Working On
The Big Cumbrian LGBTQ+ Survey
We conducted the first county-wide LGBTQ+ survey since 2011, helping us better understand the lives, challenges, and needs of local LGBTQ+ communities. The results are being used to improve services—and are available to anyone who needs them.
Building Partnerships
We work with local partners through:
Referrals & info sharing
Joint events & meetings
Specialist LGBTQ+ support
Inclusive training sessions
These connections help make services across Cumbria more welcoming and inclusive
Schools & Youth Groups
We visit schools and youth settings to:
Offer information and training
Run creative, confidence-building activities
Support self-expression and identity development
Events & Community Engagement
We love creating and joining events that bring people together, celebrate diversity, and shine a light on inclusion. From lively carnivals to community-led Pride events, these moments are at the heart of what we do.
One of the highlights of our year is the Diversity Carnival, which we help deliver alongside Multicultural Cumbria. It’s a vibrant day full of music, dance, food, and culture that celebrates people from all equality groups.
You’ll also find us at Cumbria Pride and Pride by the Harbourside, where we proudly stand alongside our LGBTQ+ communities. These colourful, joyful events are a chance for people to connect, feel visible, and celebrate identity together.
We’re also the team behind A Queer Do—an event we created to fill the gap for more alternative Pride celebrations locally. It’s a community-driven space for creativity, visibility, and queer culture, where local talent takes centre stage and everyone can feel part of something special.
Whether we’re attending, supporting, or organising, these events are all about building stronger, more connected communities where everyone is valued and represented.
